An Effective Green Treatment Program for Mosquito & Tick Control

natural-mosquito-and-tick-control-spray

The EcoVia line of research-based botanicals is a comprehensive range of natural, minimum-risk, EPA 25(b) exempt botanical insecticides. They offer the ideal combination of nature’s active ingredients and modern formulation technology to provide highly effective solutions in the real world. All EcoVia products offer specific advantages beyond just the “green” status of the products. Here are the ones most relevant to EcoVia’s mosquito & tick control products.

  • EcoVia Botanicals are fast-acting, often providing quicker knockdown and kill vs. synthetic pyrethroids.
  • EcoVia Botanicals provide true repellency. This is due to their volatile aromatic components. Insects that enter an area treated with an EcoVia product will be immediately repelled by the vapors as the botanical oils volatilize, and will stay away from the area. In contrast, synthetic pyrethroids are called “excito-repellents”. That means the insects must make physical contact with a treated surface, which causes irritation and eradict behavior …. and maybe repel them.
  • EcoVia Botanicals have no water set-back restrictions, and can fogged over water, applied up to the water’s edge, can be used on properties with ornamental water features and other environmentally sensitive areas where mosquitoes reside.
  • EcoVia Botanicals are a minimal threat to pollinators. They don’t accumulate in plants or in the environment, so aside from direct application, their threat to pollinators is minimal.
  • The use of EcoVia Botanicals is not impacted by Pyrethroid or Neonicotinoid Use Restrictions.
  • EcoVia Botanicals don’t require notification in most states. While many states require notification before treatment on certain properties such a schools, most states exempt minimum-risk 25(b) pesticides from these requirements. Be sure to check your state regulations.

Now let’s review the four EcoVia botanical products that are labelled for mosquito & tick control.

EcoVia MT Mosquito & Tick Control Concentrate is the main go-to product.

  • It was specifically formulated for fast knockdown and residual control of mosquitoes & ticks.
  • Its concentrated formula provides low use rates resulting in cost savings per application.
  • It mixes easily and stays in solution like a traditional synthetic insecticide.
  • It is labelled for use outdoors and in unfinished areas indoors.

EcoVia EC Emulsifiable Concentrate was formulated to kill and repel a wide range of crawling and flying insects, including mosquitoes & ticks.

  • Its flexible label provides a range of dilution rates for both maintenance service (use lower rates) and for active infestations (use higher rates).
  • It also mixes easily and stays in solution like a traditional synthetic pesticide.
  • It has a broader use label for indoor and outdoor treatments.

EcoVia G Granular Insecticide provides long-lasting mosquito and tick repellency and mosquito larval kill.

  • It can be used as a stand-alone full yard treatment.
  • And is the perfect complement to targeted mosquito spray applications for landscaped areas with heavy growth, the boundary between wooded areas and turf, and in areas where water tends to pool.
  • Granules will fall to ground level where sprays may not reach well.

EcoVia WD Wettable Powder is a versatile formulation that can be applied as a dust or wettable powder.

  • It kills and repels adult mosquitoes and ticks, and has larvicidal action in damp areas.
  • It works well as a supplement to spray treatments when applied to chronically dark/damp areas where mosquitoes & ticks tend to rest, harbor and breed.
  • The powder substrate extends the residual protection.

So EcoVia MT vs. EC…which concentrate should you use?

EcoVia MT is definitely preferred for tick treatments. For mosquitoes, both EcoVia MT and EC are equally effective. EcoVia MT was developed for lower use rates and lower costs. Both can be applied using a mist blower, cold, ULV fogger or compressed air sprayer.

For Mosquito Control Treatment Programs:

The preferred application method for a mosquito barrier treatment using EcoVia MT or EC is a heavy, wet mist with a droplet size in the 50 to 100+ micron range. Focus spray treatments in those shaded and damp zone areas where mosquitoes tend to rest, harbor and breed. Treat areas such as shrubbery, heavy vegetation, under porches/decks and any other shaded, damp areas. Also apply to low areas where water tends to pool.

EcoVia G can be used to supplement the EcoVia spray treatment to extend the residual protection. Focus the granule applications as a spot treatment in landscape areas with heavier growth, under porches and decks and other shaded, damp areas. Also apply to low areas where water may pool and the boundary between wooded areas & turf. Or use EcoVia G as a stand-alone full yard treatment.

Similar to EcoVia G, EcoVia WD can also be used as a supplemental spot treatment to extend the residual protection. Apply as a dust in the same shaded, damp zones as previously mentioned’ and as a liquid in other areas.

For Tick Control Programs:

Apply EcoVia MT or EcoVia EC as a coarse spray to areas where ticks tend to rest and harbor, like grassy areas, wooded areas, and areas with heavy vegetation. Apply a barrier treatment between adjacent wooded areas and the lawn to prevent tick migration. If there is a pet dog, you should also apply along the outer edges of lawns, under porches and other areas where the dog travels and rests. EcoVia G can be used as a supplemental spot treatment to the spray applications for tick control in landscaped areas, ground cover vegetation, wooded areas and to significantly manage tick populations near structures.

EcoVia WD can also be applied as a coarse spray, supplemental spot treatment to brush, rock walls, areas with tall grass and other vegetation and habitat where ticks may harbor.

EcoVia botanicals are the most advanced natural pesticide formulations available. Whatever your reason for choosing a botanical pesticide, whether for the fast-action and residual repellency, for the lack of label restrictions, or simply for the green status of the products, you can rest assured that EcoVia pesticides represent the most-advanced and most-tested 25(b) exempt formulations on the market today.
