A control plan is important for stinging insects because protecting yourself while protecting the public is critical. Identification of the stinging insect is the first step in developing a plan. Some may have nests high up, others in the ground. Some will work alone; some will come in groups. Know what you are dealing with so you can stay safe while controlling them. Wear a bee suit, especially when climbing ladders for nest removal. Some stinging insects, such as the bald-faced hornet spray from their stingers, so wear safety goggles to protect your eyes. Many stinging insects are out in the day, so the best time to treat a nest is in the evening. Finally, remember that not all stinging insects are aggressive. Some, like cicada killers, look scary but have little interest in hurting anyone, and the best strategy may be avoidance, if possible.
